News really changes overnight. Everton will be taking in résumés as of today, after letting go of their Premier League saviour, Sam Allardyce.

Less than a couple of weeks back Everton announced some needed changes, with news on the progress of their new stadium and changes being made to their backroom staff. Among the names of those staff members was Sam Allardyce.

Even then the Englishman was rumoured to be on his way out, reporting the owners were displeased with some of his performances. Move a couple of days on and the Blues from Merseyside change their tune, saying Big Sam will be the man to take them more rewarding campaigns.

More from The Top Flight

Surprising news, considering the Blues were one of the league’s biggest catastrophes to happen in 2017-2018. After the news that probably disappointed many Evertonians – they put their heads down to sleep hoping for better tomorrow.

For me, a better day came for Everton. The sacking of manager ‘Big Sam’. There should definitely be a sigh of relief roaming the air in Liverpool – but on the Blue side that is. Not a fan favourite of Sam, therefore agreeing with the move on many levels.

Why he should stay, I can really only give you one reason. The pro outweigh the cons, in favour of the sacking. It was never a matter of if, but always a matter of when.

This could be the best piece of business done for Everton in the early stages of the football break.

Yes an eighth place finish deserves more credit

I understand after the start this club had under Sam’s predecessor an eighth place finish deserves many praises. However, the style of football being played on the pitch was anything far from eye candy.

Capping off a bad season. they struggled in their last few fixtures giving late scares to how they would end. Last season’s Europa League qualifying finish, followed up by an eighth place standing, with no silverware once again – shows how many steps Everton took in reverse.

Everton’s run [W13;D10;L15] consisted of them being able to score 44 goals only and conceded six more in their own net with 58. That’s less than convincing for a team looking to stop a trophy drought.

They needed this to happen – they might be able to keep up next time

This move sets up the Blues to make a move for a younger manager, or more renowned manager to get them on the same level as their neighbouring rivals, Liverpool. The style of football, the English way of football hasn’t seen success in the near, or far past.

Sam hasn’t taken any team to where Everton want to be. If a new stadium, with new men taking charge behind the scenes is the look going on off the pitch, a new image is needed on the pitch to transfer the actions being taken behind closed doors.

After the big move, the big question is who’s going to replace Big Sam at the helm of Everton before the transfer window and season gets underway. This, plus Wenger’s resignation at Arsenal gives a good look for the start of next season.
