Two old rivals will face-off at Old Trafford later today, with Manchester United looking to seal 2nd place.

Arsenal will travel to Old Trafford for a 90 minute contest against favoured Manchester United.

The Gunners will be heavy underdogs as many first-XI players will not feature, with a huge match against Atletico Madrid in midweek holding utmost priority. This gives Manchester United a big advantage, along with a good chance to add some cushion to the 2nd place aspirations.

The biggest storyline will be centered around Alexis Sanchez, as he will face his former team for the first time since he controversially departed them in January. Alexis is still yet to play at the Emirates as a member of Manchester United, where he would undoubtedly be greeted by resentment.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who went the other way in the deal, is also expected to feature against his old side coming off a knee injury.

Arsenal will likely look towards youth prospects and rotation players to get them through the match.

As mentioned earlier, plenty of first-choice players for Arsenal will not play (Ozil, Lacazette, Ramsey, Wilshere, Mustafi, and Koscielny). The Gunners will therefore be forced to rely on more inexperienced players to get them through the match.

More from The Top Flight

It is rumoured that Konstantinos Mavropanos could feature. The Greek defender was brought in, in January and has impressed heavily in the PL2. Reiss Nelson, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, and Joe Willock will also likely feature alongside Granit Xhaka, as Arsenal’s midfield options grow thin.

Reiss Nelson is an eye-catching player with excellent footwork, and if given the opportunity to start, he could offer the spark going forward that Arsenal need, especially with Mesut Ozil missing out.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will look to continue his fantastic start to life at Arsenal. The pacey striker has a ridiculous 6 goals and 3 assists in his first 9 Premier League games.

Nelson has 10 goals and 2 assists in 10 PL2 games this year at just 18 years of age.

Manchester United have an excellent chance to extend their lead in 2nd place against a weak Arsenal side.

The Red Devils, opposite the Gunners, will likely start a full-strength XI as they look to strengthen their grip 2nd place. They currently sit 2 points ahead of Liverpool, but with 2 games in hand. An excellent opportunity indeed.

Press conference exchanges between Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho took place this week, with both managers speaking quite highly of each other. This comes after more than a decade of consistent feuds between the two. All of this comes of course, because of Wenger’s big announcement just a few weeks ago.

Arsene Wenger won his first ever Premier League match against Jose Mourinho last season in a 2-0 win at the Emirates.

Although this Sunday’s match will not be as glamorous as the great Manchester United vs Arsenal matchups in the past, matches between the two are still of very high value to the fanbases of both massive clubs, and a loss wont be taken very well by either.
