Strong finishers Newcastle United, travels all the way back to Liverpool and take on under-fire Everton, later this evening in some Monday Night Football action.

Sam Allardyce will be under immense pressure this evening when his side host Rafa’s men inside Goodison Park. His counterpart Rafael Benítez has seen better fortune and has cruised into this fixture.

The Toon Army has enjoyed a fruitful spell since the change of year, with little suggesting it’s going to stop before the season ends. Rafa has taken points from eight of the last 10 fixtures, losing only two in the process. These two matches still stand as the only two matches this team has lost for the season.

The home team Everton find themselves trying to prove they are a top-half of the table team. They have been nothing short of underwhelming and fraudulent this campaign. They’ve managed to win four and lose the same amount in the last 10 outings.

In the Toffees’ final three fixtures they only managed to collect two points from the nine up for the taking. Stalemate draws, and one-goal games is far from impressive. Besides not getting the results, where’s the entertainment? Just over a week ago Newcastle thrilled to a three-goal thriller. Differences between the two are outstandingly visible.

Everton’s lucky to have a home fixture scheduled against Newcastle

This Monday Night Football fixture funny enough brings us a gripping ninth place versus tenth place duel. It was far from expected a couple of months ago, but because of one team hitting form at a crucial time, the game has set itself up to be a great one.

More from The Top Flight

If it had taken place at St. James Park – I’d be boastful enough to assume a Newcastle win. That’s just testimony of the contrast between the two’s performances. One totally in control of their fate, and the other – riding on their last bit of luck for the remainder of the season.

One point separates the two clubs with Everton able to keep their 10th place if they take all the winnings. Whereas Newcastle, can overjump their challengers after this evening’s clash, if they were to take all the points wagered on this tie.

With Bournemouth losing midweek against Manchester United and Watford failing to secure more than one point, these two, or whoever of the two is successful – they can take the point-gap to a nice breathing space, distance. It’s exactly what’s needed after one of the hardest fights for survival to date.

Next: Arsene Wenger says goodbye

Everton is floating downstream towards being as boring as Tony Pulis’ West Brom (the type of football that saw him get evicted from the Premier League), if they continue this way – worries should be installed across all at Goodison Park.

Newcastle travel with confidence in the mind, body, and soul. As well as, their pockets, shooting boots, and even in their walk – the confidence has shot up to an all time high. It would be foolish to call them away from a win.

I have Rafa’s men firm favourites in this one. Going for a well-worked newcastle victory.

Score prediction: Everton 1-2 Newcastle
