The hype surrounding Marcus Rashford was at an all-time high last season. With fewer starts this season, the hype is quieting down after a slightly decent campaign.

The 20-year old Manchester United striker made the shortlist with his six goals and five assists this season. The six does give him a career-high with two of those goals coming in the huge 2-1 win over Liverpool a few weeks back. Rashford didn’t get too many starting opportunities from Jose Mourinho with Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez joining the squad.

It wasn’t a bad season from Marcus Rashford, it just wasn’t a season worth winning the PFA Young Player of the Year. At 20, he is the youngest Premier League player on the list and has many more years to go where he can win this award. Rashford still has the potential to be the next great United and England striker. He just needs the starts to get there.

I put Rashford last on this list because he didn’t have the goalscoring record needed to win this award. All the other nominations had a superior amount of goals and a superior amount of starts. Rashford will need to develop more as a winger in the future if he wants to get ten goal seasons every year. Lukaku isn’t leaving anytime soon and neither is Sanchez.
