These six players have deserved their nominations to be the PFA Young Player of the Year. The shortlist is a mix of surprises and the usual suspects.
After the FA Cup semifinals finish this weekend, the 2018 PFA award winners will be announced. It will take place on Sunday, April 22nd and will feature the winners of the Player of the Year and the Young Player of the Year. Here, I will be ranking the six nominations for the Young Player of the Year shortlist. The ranking will be in order on who I believe has the best chances of winning the award. The lowest player has the least chance, so on and so forth. Before we begin, here is a quick look at one team’s domination of this award.
Spurs youth has taken over the award
Five of the last six PFA Young Player of the Year winners have played for Tottenham Hotspur. Kyle Walker and Gareth Bale won it back-to-back in 2012 and 2013. After Eden Hazard grabbed the award in 2014, Harry Kane and Dele Alli have won the last three awards. Dele Alli claimed it for two years straight after Kane won it in 2015.
Alli had two remarkable seasons for Tottenham when he won this award. He did not go above and beyond this past season with just eight goals and ten assists in the Premier League. A Spurs player could still win the award, but we will begin this countdown with a rival player.
