Transfer news: Man City a medical away from record-signing of defender
The Premier League leaders Man City, have almost completed the signing of a class defender before deadline day. The deal looks to be around £57 million for Aymeric Laporte with the player subject to a medical.
This appears to be a more important signing to Pep, than the signing of Alexis Sanchez – who’s now a Man United player. Man City pulled out of the deal, after being the only team link to the Chilian. After Man United threw their name in their hat, the deal went red.
Pep and City pulled out of the chase for the player due to funds wanted by Arsenal and were not prepared to be held ransom for a player in his 30s. Subsequently, Pep now nears to one of the best signings of this window in the Premier League.
With reports coming in from The Telegraph, a medical’s the only part of the deal to completed after the clubs agreed a record fee of £57 million. Athletic Bilbao, loses a great player in Aymeric Laporte.
Bilbao could do little after City triggered the defenders release clause. Once Pep homes in on a target – City waste little time and goes in for the kill! Business at it’s best.

What a signing for Man City:
A young player ready for now and the future. He’s gone up against the likes of Messi and co, and Ronaldo and co. He has all the qualities best suited for Pep’s style of play.
With Mendy out for a long time – he comes in as a first choice, or even as a class backup. This proves Pep’s good enough to focus on the present and the future of his club. Something that’s been missing from Man City for many moons.
The Citizens have been without their club captain Vincent Kompany, for many spells. It makes more sense for Laporte – than the move for Sanchez. It would have costed them a ridiculous amount of money for a player who’d come for free a few months later.
He will continue to improve under Pep and can establish himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. Good business by a club almost destined to win the Premier League title this term.
