After pulling out of a long-hauled battle in one of the most epic transfers to date, Man City and Pep secure the long-term service of defender, Nicolas Otamendi.

The defender was all smiles when he put the pen to paper on a new deal with the Manchester club. An extension of two-years was granted to the player earlier today, and rightfully so after having a fantastic season under the Spaniard.

Otamendi has barely put a foot wrong during this season, and he’s been the usual suspect with start, after start. When reading the Manchester City write-up on the new deal – the Argentine was full of praises and spoke proudly of being able to learn from Pep and how football is a joy for him at the moment.

Next: Sturridge needs to make space

Taken from the Manchester City website:

"“MY only aim is to help the team and give all I can for this Club.“I am learning every day under Pep and enjoying my football and I feel I can still improve as a player.“It’s a very beautiful city and I’m very happy here."

No player has really come out saying they hate their time at City. Back in the early days of this new money regime, the one player by the name of Robino, couldn’t really handle the Citizen’s way of life – but then again, he’s a criminal now.

Anyway … Back to Man City’s contract business.

The form Otamendi and the rest of the city back line has been in – afforded the Blues a 12 point gap ahead of the next team who’s threatening to take the title from them.

Nicolas Otamendi has helped his side to 15 clean sheets this season. Before the Matchday 23 took place, they played one of the best football matches in the Premier League this season – they were on a 30 game unbeaten run and pressuring Arsenal’s invincible record.

Unfortunately, the home side Liverpool were too much for them on the night, and stopped the undefeated run of the Blues. However, Man City still boast one of the best attacking and defensive teams in the English Premier League and Europe.

Nicolas’ new deal keeps him an additional five years at the club, and hopefully for him and Pep – those five years will be filled with silverware.
