After three weeks of domestic action in the Premier League, one club sits atop the table- and for good reason. United have had a stellar start to the campaign, having earned three wins and without conceding any goals. To be fair, the Red Devils haven’t been intensively challenged yet. They have faced West Ham, the Swans, and the Foxes.

Manchester United and their fans are all-too-familiar with false dawns and misplaced hope, but this time it’s real.

After their 2-0 victory over Leicester City on Saturday, Jose Mourinho and the Old Trafford faithful are stirring. His first season in charge, Mourinho looks like he is finding his groove. With a healthy balance of experienced players and shining young talent, the Devils are clearly getting their rebuild right.

More from The Top Flight

Marcus Rashford is leading the line with pace and incredible skill, and the 19-year-old made an instant impact against the Foxes after he scored just two minutes after coming on. It will be interesting to see how Mourinho uses the Englishman this year in both domestic and Champions League competition, after the shock re-signing of Zlatan.

United’s revitalized attack is full of depth, with Rashford and French starlet Anthony Martial ready to rotate with Lukaku and eventually Ibrahimovic. The beating heart of United’s hot start is in the midfield, however.

The signing of Croatian holding midfielder Nemanja Matic from Chelsea might be the best signing for the Manchester giants this summer. The addition of Matic to play a defensive role in the midfield has freed Paul Pogba to play where he excels most, in an attacking midfield role where his creativity and scoring skill can flourish.

The pair are collaborating flawlessly, creating plenty of opportunities for Rashford, Martial, and Lukaku. Last season, this match would probably have been a draw. United had a difficult time creating much offensive pressure against bottom and mid-table teams, and defensive weaknesses hindered their progress in domestic competition.

It is an opportune time for Manchester United to return to the Champions League as they are clicking. Fortunately, they were drawn into a pretty winnable group in Group A having upcoming fixtures against Benfica, Basel, and CSKA Moscow.

Up next for United is an away match to Stoke on September 9th.

Next: van Dijk to Liverpool?
