Loic Remy to leave Chelsea this summer
By Rayna Sidhu
Chelsea’s rarely used striker, Loic Remy, will be allowed to leave the West London club this summer once a new replacement is found.
The French striker has not made much of an impact in the Premier League. Chelsea purchased him from QPR in 2014 for a fee around £11 million. After making 32 appearances over two seasons, of which 23 were substitutions, he was loaned out to Crystal Palace for a year. However, he only made it two weeks at Palace before he sustained a knee injury.
Now he has returned to his home club, who have given him permission to leave this summer once another striker has been purchased. When that will happen is still unclear as the champions weigh up a number of options.

So far, Lille, Marseille, Everton and Southampton have all been linked with the striker. At 30 years old, he is past the best he was ever going to be. The priority seems to be regular game time. It is questionable whether any of those potential clubs could provide that.
In fairness to Remy, he was not given much of a chance at Chelsea. Although Chelsea won the League that season, Diego Costa was the main choice striker, with Didier Drogba usually second in line.
As is often the case with Jose Mourinho, he did not seem to favour giving Remy a significant chance, and his game suffered for it.
There seems to have been little to no consideration about keeping Remy at the club. Chelsea have been chasing a striker all summer after Antonio Conte made clear that Diego Costa was not part of his plans.
After losing Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United, rumours have circulated about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Andrea Belotti, Alvaro Morata, and most recently, Sergio Aguero. Even Michy Batshuayi does not seem to have been considered as first choice striker. So in truth, Loic Remy’s future was always going to be non-existent at Chelsea.

It will be best for the club and the player for him to leave this summer. It is understandable that he wants more regular game time, and hopefully another club can give him just that. Remy has had an unfortunate time in English football – things must surely become better from here.
