Mbappe has been perhaps the most talked about player this transfer window. As Real Madrid continue to try their luck, Manchester City have re-entered talks.

At 18 years old with clear talent, many clubs desire the young Frenchman. Arsenal, Paris Saint-German and Real Madrid have all been consistent in their targeting of the striker this summer. Bids in excess of €100 million have been made in order to tempt him away from Monaco.

Now, Sky Sports reports that Manchester City have shown their interest again. They did so earlier in the year but made no progress, with Pep Guardiola subsequently focusing on other targets instead.

It is abundantly clear why City have re-entered talks for Mbappe. He scored 26 goals last season and his potential to grow is incredible.  He is fast, instinctual and communicates well with teammates. His contribution overall is huge. This was also seen during the World Cup qualifiers when he played alongside the likes of Paul Pogba, N’golo Kante and Ousmane Dembele, and held his own.

The issue is his age. He is only 18, which gives him plenty of time to develop. This is part of the reason why Monaco’s asking price is so high. He may make them a lot of money already, but he is valuable if he stays at the club. Monaco are trying to deter their competitors from matching such lucrative bids. So far, it isn’t working.

If Monaco can keep him for another year and he continues to develop, there is no telling what the asking price could become. At such a young age, it would be worth him staying in France for now. But, he is also young enough to be moulded by whichever club can bid highest right now. He would slot into any of the three teams that want him and their incentive is high.

The last time Manchester City tried to bid for Mbappe, he rejected them on the basis that he was set on going to Real Madrid.  However, it was not known whether that would be this year or next year. As it stands, PSG and Arsenal have stood firm in their desire for him. City are smart to also re-join the party while the options are seemingly open.
