Arsenal: Arsene Wenger set to sign new two-year deal to stay on as manager
Arsene Wenger is set to sign a new two-year deal to remain at Arsenal, despite the recent backlash from the club’s fans.
Arsene Wenger is under enormous pressure from Arsenal fans right now, but that won’t stop the Frenchman from holding steadfast in his position at the club. Wenger has been given the thumbs up to sign a new deal and remain the club’s manager for another two years, according to The Sun.
Even missing out on Champions League qualification this season will not change the board’s support of Wenger. The only area the board do question Wenger on is in the transfer market, and the Gunners are at least set for changes in that regard.
A new director of football position will be created, with Wenger at least being relieved of some of his duties. Will that change alone appease the Arsenal fans? Many want Wenger to leave his position entirely, not have it amended.
How much will things really change? That is what it all comes down to. Arsenal fans want changes, they are sick and tired of the same old. Every year they finish in the top four, with no real danger of truly challenging for the title. They win the same way, they lose the same way.
Everything just stays the same. Pretty Average. Until this season, that is, where the Gunners are now in real danger of finishing outside the top four for the first time since Wenger arrived at the club.

That’s even more of a possibility after the club’s embarrassing defeat against Crystal Palace on Monday. The performance and result was bad enough, but the fact that it was entirely predictable was even worse.
Anybody who has seen Arsenal over the last five-to-ten years will have known exactly what to expect in the game against Palace. Any team that is physically strong, can defend in numbers, has pace on the counter-attack and is dangerous at set-pieces always has a chance against Arsenal. Always.
It never changes. The same questions and criticisms that come up now, are the same ones that have been coming up for years. Yet, still, Wenger brings no drastic changes to table. No change of direction. Nothing evolves.
The same plan that worked against Arsenal back in 2010, still works today in 2017. Just ask Sam Allardcye. So if Wenger does stay, why will anything change now? And is a new director of football just a way of appeasing the fans? Will the fans even be accepting of the new role?

It probably depends on who the incoming individual is. Still, after 20-plus years at the club, it’s easy to see why fans have finally grown tired of Wenger. Everything has its place and time. Wenger’s time has surely expired now.
Well, not according to the Arsenal board. If they get their way, it seems Arsene Wenger still has at least another two years at the Emirates Stadium.
