Uncertainty hangs over the head of current Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger. If the Frenchman doesn’t return after this season, then the club want to hire Massimiliano Allegri as his replacement.

Arsenal are heading for a crossroads in the summer. There are question marks against a number of key individuals at the club. The biggest potential exit being long-time boss Arsene Wenger.

If Wenger does decide to leave the Gunners, then Massimiliano Allegri is the man the Arsenal hierarchy wants as his replacement, according to The Sun. Allegri is currently in charge of Italian giants Juventus. But this season is looking increasingly likely to be his final one in Turin.

Allegri has fallen out with a number of his own players over the course of this season. The latest spat being with star defender Leonardo Bonucci. And with Allegri’s future being uncertain, Arsenal hope they will be able to entice the Italian to the Emirates Stadium.

However, Allegri is not the only name on Arsenal’s managerial shortlist. Borussia Dortmund’s Thomas Tuchel and Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone are two names also being looked at by the club. Monaco’s Leonardo Jardim is also admired. But it is Allegri who is seen as the top choice.

Allegro, too, is interested in a move to the Premier League if and when he parts ways with the Old Lady. It’s Wenger, though, who must make a decision on his future at a club he has spent over 20 years in charge of.

The Arsenal boss has gone through the gauntlet a bit this season, with many Gunners fans tired of, what feels like, the same old season. If Wenger does depart, Allegri looks to be a smart choice as his replacement.

The 49-year-old is experienced and also encourages a style of play that correlates with the Arsenal way of playing. Allegri focuses on having control of games through possession, but definitely has a balance to his teams that Arsenal currently lack.

The job wouldn’t faze Allegri, either. When he arrived at Juventus, he was expected to struggle. Antonio Conte had just left after winning three consecutive Serie A titles. Some of Juve’s top players were also being linked with moves to other teams.

It seemed like things not only couldn’t possibly get any better under a new manager, but worse than that, the only way was down. Allegri’s appointment didn’t inspire confidence either. But, nevertheless, Allegri arrived, calmed the situation, and led the club to another two Serie A championships.

It may have been a difficult situation from the day he walked in, but the Italian handled it all admirably. Joining Arsenal would be something similar. But as Allegri has already shown, he would be ready for the challenge.
