Arsene Wenger’s future at Arsenal remains up in the air but the club are not willing to wait long to find out the Frenchman’s intentions.
Arsenal want Arsene Wenger to remain the club’s manager beyond this season. The Frenchman has been offered a new two-year deal, however, the Arsenal hierarchy want Wenger to make a decision on his future this month, according to The Sun.
Wenger is out of contract in the summer and has come under increasing pressure this season due to the team’s struggles at times. But the club still want him to stay and are scheduled to meet with the 67-year-old in three weeks time.
Wenger said last week that he will be managing somewhere next season, but is yet to commit to the Gunners. Meanwhile, the club have a curated a shortlist of potential Wenger replacements were they to require a new manager.
The list includes the likes of Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli, Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri and Ralph Hasenhuttl of Red Bull Leipzig. The fact that both club and manager are unsure of the future right now shows that Wenger is seriously considering his future at the Emirates Stadium.

However, the club are right push Wenger for an answer. Part of the problem at Arsenal is people yielding to Wenger. Everybody waiting on the Arsenal boss to make a decision. It’s about time the club started to take a more proactive approach to Wenger and the direction of the club.
Arsenal need to plan for the summer and their longer term future. There’s no way they can allow Wenger to mull his situation over at his leisure until June or July. Arsenal have already suffered due to not taking control of a situation with the futures Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
Too much waiting for answers from the players, and not enough of the club dictating proceedings to the players. Arsenal needed to take control of those contract situations much sooner. But by not doing so, they’ve now lost control of both situations.
In Wenger’s case, if he leaves, then it will be a new era at Arsenal. The club need to then decide which direction they would like to go in next. Do they hire a coach that works in a similar vein to Wenger or do they change direction completely?

Either way, the Arsenal board need to know in advance of the summer. In years gone by, they probably would have silently waited on Wenger to make a decision. But it’s about time the Arsenal hierarchy took control and showed some leadership.
It may be too late in some instances, but when it comes to Wenger, the board are right to be pushy with the Frenchman.
