Could Neymar make a shocking move to Manchester United in the summer? Jose Mourinho seems to be hoping so.

Jose Mourinho wants to bring Neymar to Manchester United. The Red Devils boss is trying to lure the Brazilian to Old Trafford and has called the player personally, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.

Neymar is currently a member of the famed Barcelona attacking trio MSN – Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar. But life in Barcelona right now is not without issues. The team are on the verge of being knocked out of the Champions League. Life in La Liga is rocky, too.

Meanwhile, Messi is yet to agree to a new contract with the Catalan club and continues to be linked with a move away from the club. Could Neymar possibly be considering jumping ship also? The report says Mourinho sees the 25-year-old as the ideal superstar signing for the team’s attack.

United currently have Zlatan Ibrahimovich as their star striker, but the Swede is in his final seasons at the highest level. Whilst the rest of United’s attack is either not at their peak yet or too far removed from it.

More from Manchester United

United did lack star power, too, before Mourinho arrived at the club. Last summer, Mourinho rectified that somewhat by bringing in Ibrahimovich and Paul Pogba. However, as mentioned, Zlatan is coming towards the end now and Pogba is still trying to find his best form.

Neymar would be another superstar. Especially so with Wayne Rooney looking increasingly likely to leave the club in the summer. From United’s side, nothing about signing Neymar would be off-putting.

Not even a new world-record transfer fee or a sky-high pay packet. Neymar is worth it. Every penny. Both on the field and off the field with all the endorsements he brings. The real question is whether Neymar would want to join United? It’s hard to believe, right now at least.

United aren’t even sure to be in the Champions League at this point. Is Neymar going to join United and play in the Europa League? Seriously? Much like the situation with Antione Griezmann, United need to forget about these kind of signings for now.

Without qualifying for the Champions League, they’re unlikely to happen. The Pogba signing was supposed to signify United’s return to the top table. But if that doesn’t come to fruition, then the world’s best players are going to sit back and just wait to see where the club goes next.

The Champions League is a must-have. Once that is in the bag, then a few must-have players may well follow. Although, whether Neymar is realistically among the possibilities would still be somewhat doubtful.
