Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal contract expires at the end of the season. Concerns are growing that the Frenchman will walk away come the summer.

Arsene Wenger has yet to commit himself to a new deal at Arsenal. The Gunners boss has been at the club for over 20 years now, but it seems that there is a very real chance that Wenger will not be the club’s manager next season.

Wenger was expected to sign a new deal in the summer. But after a torrid last few weeks, concerns are growing inside the club that the 67-year-old will walk away, according to the Telegraph.

So much so that the Arsenal hierarchy are already weighing up potential replacement. The names being looked at are Juventus manager Max Allegri, Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel and Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim.

What looks certain now is that Wenger will wait until the summer to take a decision. But where a few weeks ago an extension was seen as likely, Wenger’s future is now back in the balance. However, club owner Stan Kroenke is desperate for Wenger to stay.

But the Frenchman has received a lot of criticism in recent weeks, and especially in the aftermath of last week’s loss to Chelsea. Arsenal fans had the same feeling after that defeat that they have had for around a decade now. It’s an all too familiar feeling for most.

Many of the fans are now calling for change, and it seems Wenger is hearing them loud and clear. However, would Wenger leaving really be great news for the club? Not necessarily. What it is, though, is a chance for the club to use a different approach and to try something new.

Nothing is guaranteed. But the club have been treading these same waters for years and years now. At some point, enough is enough. It’s time for new methods, new ideas and a new voice in the locker room. That time comes for every sports team.

It’s been coming at Arsenal for a while. Unless Wenger can turn this season around, that is. There are still 14 Premier League games remaining this season, and Chelsea are currently 12 points clear.

But barring a miracle – given Arsenal’s recent history – this year is shaping up to be another unsatisfactory campaign in the Premier League. Or is it? Some argue that the fans should be overjoyed at continuously qualifying for the Champions League every season. That, in some ways, is true.

But the Arsenal fans want more than just Champions League action. They want trophies. Ultimately, it’s about the glory for the club’s followers – not the bank balance or 4th spot. Wenger, to his credit, pretty much guarantees a top four finish and a healthy bank balance most seasons.

Apparently, his future is anything but guaranteed right now.
