Chelsea are already looking towards the summer and are plotting a bid to sign Sergio Aguero from Manchester City.

Chelsea are on course to be crowned Premier League champions, but the Blues are not about to rest on their laurels. The club are already eyeing up summer moves and are plotting a bid to sign Sergio Aguero from Manchester City, according to The Mirror.

Aguero is a hero at the Etihad Stadium and has never even looked remotely close to leaving the club. But suddenly, the Argentine’s future is up in the air as Pep Guardiola continues to evaluate his City squad.

Chelsea also have uncertainty over their own striker, Diego Costa, with the Brazilian linked to a move to China in January. The club still don’t know if Costa wants to stay beyond this season. That’s where Aguero comes in.

With the arrival, and recent performances, of Gabriel Jesus, Aguero now finds himself for the first time at the club, no longer the first choice striker. Aguero was on the bench for City’s scintillating win over West Ham on Wednesday. He may have to get used to that a bit more moving forward.

However, Aguero has told his advisors that he is unwilling to play reserve striker to Jesus. Real Madrid were linked with a £75 million move for the Argentine a few days ago, but Chelsea are planning to hijack any Aguero move to Spain.

If Costa does happen to leave Stamford Bridge, then signing Aguero would be a fantastic option to bring in. Although, the two players are completely different. It’s not exactly a like-for-like replacement.

Aguero doesn’t have the best of injury records either. Injuries have hampered the striker’s last few seasons, although Aguero still manages to be among the top scorers every year regardless.

For City, would they sell to a direct rival? It’s difficult to believe that City would want to sell Aguero – if the situation indeed comes to that – to another top Premier League team. A move abroad to a Real Madrid or a Paris Saint-Germain would surely be more appealing.

Wherever Aguero could go is going to bring a very high transfer fee anyway, no matter what. And who knows, maybe Guardiola finds a way to play Aguero and Jesus together? It looks unlikely right now because Guardiola does not play with two strikers.

And whilst Jesus can play out wide, his insane work rate appears to be exactly what Guardiola wants in his lone striker. So only leaves the option of Aguero playing out wide. That doesn’t seem like a positive solution.

So it may well come down to a summer exit for one of City’s greatest ever players. And it appears Chelsea will be just one team waiting with open arms.
