West Ham United have signed Robert Snodgrass from Hull City. In today’s market, the signing is a good one.

West Ham United officially have a new player in the shape of Robert Snodgrass. The winger has joined the club from Hull City in a deal that will initially cost £7 million, but could rise up to £10 million, according to Sky Sports.

West Ham have had a disappointing season so far, and have recently had the Dimitri Payet saga to contend with. The good news, though, is that the team have picked up since Payet left the scene.

Now new arrivals in the shape of Snodgrass and, last week, Jose Fonte from Southampton have arrived. Both are experienced Premier League players and you know exactly what you’re going to get from both each and every week.

Things are starting to looking up for The Hammers. In recent form, the potential departure of the want-away Payet, and a few new signings. Snodgrass obviously is not on the level that Payet is, but although Payet had all the talent and no work rate or team ethic, Snodgrass comes with a little bit of everything.

More from The Top Flight

Slaven Bilic will never want for work rate from his new man and the Scotsman is a goal threat too. Snodgrass has scored seven goals and served up three assists for the Tigers this season. That’s enough to place the new man second on both the Hammers’ top scorer and assist leaderboards.

West Ham already have wide players like Michail Antonio, Sofiane Feghouli, Manuel Lanzini and Gokhan Tore. Snodgrass will be another name, and more competition, for that list. It’s not a signing that changes things drastically.

But in today’s market, £7 million is not a lot of money at all. Snodgrass is a proven Premier League player with seven goals and three assists from a wide position. The 29-year-old is in his prime and has played in England’s top flight for two and a half seasons now.

West Ham can hold off the balloons and fireworks, but the club can be happy all the same with their work in January. For their part, Hull wanted to keep hold of Snodgrass to aid their hopes for survival, but eventually lost their battle to keep the player.

The Tiger’s chances of survival are a lot worse now Snodgrass has left the KCOM Stadium. A lot will depend on how new boss Marco Silva spends the money that has come into the club to replace Snodgrass. Unfortunately for Hull, £7 million is not a lot to work with in today’s market.

Which is why West Ham can be happy with their signing of Snodgrass.
