Tottenham are just one of a number of clubs being linked with Isco and the Spaniard is just the signing Spurs need at this point in their development.

Tottenham Hotspur have been reported to be interested in signing Real Madrid playmaker Isco. So have a number of other clubs. But for Spurs the signing is a perfect one. One that would take the club to the next level.

Tottenham are looking like strong contenders for the Premier League title once again this season. The club is growing year-on-year under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine has done a sensational job in his two seasons at White Hart Lane.

Spurs put up a strong fight for the Premier League title last season and now look like doing the same this season. But the success of the club in recent seasons also has to be put into perspective.

Spurs are a wonderful team. They play as a unit, they defend as a unit, they press in unison, everybody works hard. They’re a real team. But that doesn’t mean the individuals in that team can’t be improved upon.

Which is why Isco is now a perfect signing for Pochettino and Tottenham. It’s time. It’s time to add some star power and magic to a fantastic unit. Isco would immediately be a starter were he to join the club. Immediately.

More from The Top Flight

Son Heung-min has been unbelievable in the early stages of this season. Four goals in four Premier League games is amazing. But it is just four games. Even when the South Korean signed for the club, nobody expected the next Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite the ‘Sonaldo’ nickname.

Everybody expected a very good player. That’s what, finally, he is now. Once he levels out. Same with Erik Lamela on the other flank. Good player. Perfect for Pochettino’s system. Moussa Sissoko. Good player. Nothing special. Just really good players.

Together, combined with the best defense in the league, and a firing Harry Kane, they make for one of the best four teams in the league. But Isco is a special player. A special talent. A level above. Isco is a step up compared to what Spurs have right now. He works hard, too. He’s just a perfect fit.

Only a club like Real Madrid sign and then bench players like Isco and James Rodriguez. That’s the wackiness of Los Blancos. Tottenham can take advantage of that and sign a player who is potentially world class when he plays regularly.

You can’t pass up that opportunity if you’re Spurs. It’s okay hanging with the big boys on the field. Now do it in the transfer market. Attract at least one star name now. Show everybody just how far you have come.

Pochettino has done wonderful things picking up players from Newcastle United, Southampton and MK Dons and turning them into excellent cogs in his Spurs machine. But Isco is more than just a cog in a machine.

The 24-year-old just needs a place to settle and play regularly. Tottenham can be that stable club that gives him the platform to shine to his true potential. If he does that, he will be Tottenham’s best player. How can you not seize an opportunity like that?

Tottenham have been ruthless on the field under Pochettino. Now it’s time to be ruthless in the transfer market. Sign Isco. Take the next step.
