Manchester United has notably told Ryan Giggs to get lost and turned their hopes to the mercenary manager himself. So where does Rooney go post-retirement?
I try not to wear my heart on my sleeve as much as I do with Manchester United, but it’s hard not to be a tad ticked off when a team that was so richly embedded with the culture of Sir Alex Ferguson completely derails and sells their soul in the span of four years.

Between David Moyes and Louis van Gaal, Manchester United had two more than capable coaches who, given the proper chance, could have made something of themselves and taken that team places. But following in Fergie’s shadow was never going to be easy and as such, they were done away with after being given only a short opportunity.
Even through all of that, there was hope on the horizon. There was Ryan Giggs. No one is more Manchester United than Ryan Giggs. The team was derailing, they had lost their identity and their glory. All they had to do was turn to Ryan Giggs and give him the reigns. Give the reigns to a guy that the city, the club and the supporters can rally behind. Even if he struggles for a bit, give him a chance. Fergie struggled too, it happens.
But they turned to Jose Mourinho. The man who has no affiliation. All in the name of instant glory.
And so, Manchester United now have a path cut out for them. Succeed now or they are only going to be in more trouble down the road. And even if they do succeed now, there is no prolonged glory attached to Mourinho.

There may be new hope, however. And yes, I am picturing ‘the new hope’ like Luke Skywalker. So let me take you on this analogy. Jose Mourinho is clearly Darth Vader. Ryan Giggs is Obi-Wan Kenobi, Sir Alex Ferguson is Yoda and Wayne Rooney is Luke Skywalker (this only works for the original three).
With Manchester United in desperate need of a leader, they could have appointed Kenobi, but he was struck down by Jose Mourinho, in plain view of Wayne Rooney. Now, Rooney must decide for himself. He has admitted that he wants to be a coach and he is getting his certifications. But will he be the one to strike down Vader and take the mantle that should have been Kenobi’s or will he just fly away to another galaxy and coach, I don’t know, Nottingham Forrest or something random like that?

Wayne Rooney saw how his club treated the previous ’embodiment’ of Manchester United, Ryan Giggs. So does Rooney try to be the savior that Giggs should have been or does he just ply his trade elsewhere? Something tells me that United will still need saving when Rooney is ready to be a manager.
