Euro 2016: Complete schedule for Round of 16 stage
We now know the complete schedule for the Euro 2016 Round of 16 stage.
It’s been an eventful two weeks with 24 teams battling out for a spot in the Round of 16. With the complicated third-place qualification out of the way, we now know who will play who in the first round of the knockouts.
There are some particularly interesting matchups in here such as Croatia vs. Portugal and Italy vs. Spain. The quarter-finals these games can setup will too be fascinating.
Here’s the full schedule for the Round of 16 games.
Switzerland vs. Poland — Saturday, June 25 (9am ET)
Two second-placed teams from Group A and C meet here in what should be an even contest. Both will feel they have a rare opportunity to make a run deep into the tournament due to the unlikely way the draw has fallen.
This should be an entertaining game with the winners going onto face one of Croatia or Portugal.
Wales vs. Northern Ireland — Saturday, June 25 (Noon ET)
Nothing beats a local rivalry. It’s not often we get to see Wales and Northern Ireland lock horns at a major tournament, particularly in the knockout stages. This one will be a lot of fun. Wales are strong favorites, particularly with the left foot of Gareth Bale, but who knows?

Croatia vs. Portugal — Saturday, June 25 (3pm ET)
Two heavyweights meet early on in the knockout stages. Croatia, winners of Group D, will be favorites for this one. Portugal were underwhelming in a fairly easy group, drawing all three of their games, although Cristiano Ronaldo was beginning to heat up in his side’s 3-3 draw with Hungary.
France vs. Republic of Ireland — Sunday, June 26 (9am ET)
The Republic of Ireland will need of their heart, fight and determination we saw against Italy to have a shot here. But who knows? France will be under immense pressure at home, while Ireland will be fearless, and they’re no pushovers. This one will be fun to watch.
Germany vs. Slovakia — Sunday, June 26 (Noon ET)
Slovakia looked pretty good going forward against Wales and Russia but were more than happy to sit back and defend for 90 minutes against England. Germany have too much quality to try that tactic, and the world champions are heavy favorites to advance.
Hungary vs. Belgium — Sunday, June 26 (3pm ET)
Belgium may not have won the group, but they won’t be too disappointed with their draw in the knockout stages. Hungary did well to win Group F, but they are far from a team destined for the final.
Italy vs. Spain — Monday, June 27 (Noon ET)
A rematch of the Euro 2012 will be worth waiting until Monday. Spain lost their first game at a European Championship since 2004 against Croatia on Tuesday night, and it was enough to knock them down to second in the group. Spain have the better team on paper, but you can never write Italy off.

England vs. Iceland — Monday, June 27 (3pm ET)
England will be frustrated not to win Group B, and they will run into another team happy to sit back and defend. Still, this was about as good of a Round of 16 tie as England could have hoped for. They should be too strong for Iceland, who have done incredibly well to make it this far.
