Manchester City are rightfully stepping up their interest in the young German star Leroy Sane. Sane can right the wobbling ship that is City’s wide attack.

Manchester City have a plethora of talent at just about every position. Manuel Pellegrini always made sure that he didn’t corner himself like his dear friend Arsene Wenger has a habit of doing. By having a wide array of options, there will always be an alternative to an under-performer.

But, then again, City’s wide player crop was a bit of a mess.

Between Jesus Navas and Raheem Sterling, Manchester City’s wide attackers were a big, steamy pile of enigma. Neither one could be relied upon. Navas had brief bursts of brilliance but there were times when he would inexplicably short out and fail to finish.

Meanwhile, anyone who has ever read anything I have ever written about Raheem Sterling… ever… knows my opinion of him. He is so grossly overrated. He reminds me of Gervinho. The man could dribble his way out of Black Friday at the mall, but when it comes to placing a thoughtful pass or finding the back of the net, he has a mental breakdown.

Kevin de Bruyne was an excellent move for the Mancunians, but his injury cost them in that the team had to rely on Navas and Sterling, the ambiguously enigmatic duo.

That’s why Leroy Sane makes total sense. He should be at the forefront of Manchester City’s wishlist.

Just 20 years old, Sane has risen to the international spotlight while at FC Schalke. In just over 2800 minutes of Bundesliga football, the young man accumulated eight goals and six assists, better than either Navas or Sterling in England.

Sane is a master on the ball and with pace like his, he would fit in masterfully with City’s quick strike ability. Between Aguero, Silva and de Bruyne, Manchester City already rely on a heavy dose of movement and passing. Sane fits seamlessly into that mix.

Plus, the lad is young. He is someone you can build around. Pep Guardiola got a nice long look at the youngster while he was at Bayern Munich and if he was impressed and believes he has what it takes to translate to English success, who are we to doubt him?

City need a dose of consistency and getting Sane introduced at such a young age with a coach that masters in consistency is only going to help everyone involved. There is always a degree of risk with switching leagues, but Sane has the dribbling aspect down. We will go ahead and say he can match Raheem Sterling already, therefore. His finishing is the next to fall in line and he has already shown us that he has what it takes to add that to his repertoire.

Even if he isn’t an immediate solution, he is most certainly a long-term one, and Manchester City should be just fine with that too.
