With the signing of Anthony Martial, Manchester United now find themselves with two young strikers both looking to earn playing time with the Red Devils this summer. The world’s most expensive teenager Anthony Martial and England U-21 international James Wilson.

The two youngsters are also joined by new signing Memphis Depay and Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney. Though Rooney is currently struggling in the Premier League, it is doubtful he will be replaced any time soon as the Red Devils lead striker.

While Memphis is more comfortable as an attacking winger, both James Wilson and Anthony Martial will be a positional battle between themselves. With Anthony Martial’s ability to play in a winger role as well as a striker role, the Frenchman likely has an advantage over his teammate.

Unlikely to gain any playing time with the three players currently ahead of him in quality and positional need, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is looking to send the young Englishman out on a season-long loan deal. The move would be used to get James Wilson first team minutes and aid his development.

However, while the club’s manager wants to send James Wilson on loan to get some first team experience, the player himself does not want to leave the confines of Old Trafford this season. In fact, he is determined to prove himself and earn a spot in the Red Devils first team.

With only four attacking players on the roster — including Wilson — Manchester United could be leaving themselves short in case of injury this season. Though the report states that Louis van Gaal would have a recall clause in the possible loan deal, the time is would take to get re-acclimated to Manchester United could hurt the club.

The 19-year-old Englishman played in 17 matches for Manchester United last season and is hoping to continue his push into the Red Devil first team. His pace has been his main weapon and is said to be highly valued by Louis van Gaal as a player for the club’s future.

Louis van Gaal also plans on adding Marouane Fellaini, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera to the attacking area of the squad, making the Dutchman confident of his attacking options. Without first team minutes to aid his development, a loan deal seems like the best option for the young Englishman.

However, with James Wilson desperate to prove himself and stay at Manchester United this season, could the Red Devils decide to keep him in the team. Aiding his development through Champions League matches as well as FA and League Cup games could allow the Englishman to remain with the club this season.
