While the transfer deadline day was a busy one on both the English and European fronts, one club that once again was quiet on the final day of the summer transfer window was Arsenal. In fact, it was so quiet that the bin labeled Arsenal transfer news was incredibly empty for the duration of the day.

However, there was one piece of news that was destined to set the world alight. With news spreading that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was in Paris, many believed that the Gunners were close to signing the PSG star on deadline day.

As the hours ticked by and no news emerged from the Emirates Stadium, many began to doubt the validity of the rumor. In fact it appears that even a tumultuous summer between Zlatan Ibrahimovic and many French football fans did not faze the Swede’s desire to continue with the French giants.

When asked whether he was close to a possible move to Arsenal on deadline day, Zlatan Ibrahimovic revealed that not only was he not close to a move but was also happy to remain in the French capital for at least another season.

"“No, so the interest that existed, I have not committed myself to. It is my agent Mino Raiola who takes care of the pieces. When I give notice that I want something to happen I get involved. But this summer I have been resting up, I enjoyed the holiday. There was a lot of interest but I said from the beginning that I will stay with PSG. I like it, we have a good team, my family feel good and it’s just positive with Paris and PSG. But they [Arsenal] wanted, they wanted much.”"

Over the course of the summer, not only was Zlatan Ibrahimovic linked with a move back to AC Milan but also to Arsenal’s rivals Chelsea. In the end though, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has chosen to remain with Paris St. Germain in hope of possibly making the French club Champions League champions.

Without the move for Zlatan taking place, it marks another summer under Arsene Wenger where the Gunners have failed to impress. The only major signing of the summer for the Gunners was the signing of Petr Cech from Chelsea.

Missing out on securing a quality striker to either pair or replace Olivier Giroud could cost Arsenal this season. In a year where the Gunners were expected to contend for the Premier League title, the Gunners have once again underwhelmed us all this season.
