Manchester United have officially announced their move to loan young center back Tyler Blackett to the defending Scottish Premiership champions Celtic. The move will see the Red Devil youth player remain with Celtic for the rest of the upcoming season as well as feature for them in their Europa League matches.

The 21-year old had yet to feature for Manchester United this season and was doubtful to make a meaningful impact on the squad. The young Englishman made his debut with the Manchester United first team last year, going on to make a total of 11 appearances for the Red Devils.

Unlikely to play a role in the club this season, Red Devil manager Louis van Gaal has made the right choice to loan out the young defender. Earning first team minutes with a club like Celtic will not only give the player experience playing in front of a large crowd but also put him in a position to play competitive football.

Tyler Blackett will join up with former Manchester United U-21 teammate and fellow center back Saidy Janko who joined Celtic on a permanent deal earlier in the summer transfer window. The move will undoubtedly provide the Englishman with much needed minutes and game time to aid in his future development.

With the move, Celtic now have a certain backlog of central defenders. However, one thing that this season long loan could signal is the possible departure of star center back Virgil van Dijk. The Dutchman is rumored to be close to a move to the South Coast with Southampton FC.

The Scottish giants recent elimination in the Champions League will now see Celtic join the Europa League in the group stages. After losing out on the Champions League, van Dijk’s time in Glasgow has certainly come to an end.

Van Dijk’s departure from the Bhoys will make way for the newly arrived Tyler Blackett. Both moves make sense as Manchester United would have not loaned the 21-year old to Celtic without a guarantee in playing minutes, something the club can now provide with van Dijk’s departure.

Joining the Scottish giants will be a great chance for Tyler Blackett. Celtic — though operating on a much smaller budget — operate themselves as a major club. The training facilities and stadium are first class, giving the youngster the chance to develop with a major club.

The move will allow him to continue his development under similar pressures and circumstances as he would see with Manchester United. Should the 21-year old develop into a top quality defender, this move by Manchester United may be looked back on as a career defining moment.
