Southampton FC are at it again this summer. After the losses of Nathaniel Clyne and Morgan Schneiderlin earlier in the transfer window, the Saints have reportedly informed current starting defensive midfielder and Kenyan international Victor Wanyama that he will not be sold this summer.

The Express are reporting that though the club have received interest from both Tottenham and Arsenal for the 24-year old, Southampton will not be selling Victor Wanyama this summer. To that point, it is unlikely the Saints will sell any players for the rest of the transfer window.

While the loss of Victor Wanyama would be a major one for the Southampton FC midfield, manager Ronald Koeman has eyes on the bigger picture. A tough start to the campaign has seen Southampton go winless to open the Premier League season and also be knocked out of the Europa League before the group stage.

If Southampton FC are to really make another run this season at Europa League qualification, the club cannot afford to lose another star player. Continuity and chemistry within the squad will be key to the Saints Premier League success this season.

Left out of the squad for Southampton’s 1-0 loss at Norwegian Champions FC Midtjylland, many believed the move was a sign of the Kenyan’s impending departure from the South Coast. However, Southampton FC manager Ronald Koeman later revealed that Victor Wanyama would not be sold and was left out of the side with a stomach bug.

This is not a first time occurrence for the Saints though. Last summer, following the departures of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Calum Chambers Dejan Lovren and Luke Shaw, former Saint midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin asked to be sold from the club.

Rejecting this move by the Frenchman, Southampton FC retained Morgan Schneiderlin for the entirety of last season. His strong play was one of the reason’s that Southampton FC managed to make their run at the Premier League’s top seven last season.

Now sold to Manchester United, not only did retaining Morgan Schneiderlin increase his overall transfer value, but it also propelled the club up the Premier League table. This is likely the same plan the club will attempt to use with Victor Wanyama.

Tottenham and Arsenal will almost certainly make more run’s at the Kenyan during both the end of the summer transfer window and January window due to the 24-year old’s quality. Known for his toughness and defending ability, Victor Wanyama would immediately command a place as a holding midfielder in either club’s starting XI.

One thing that will likely concern the Saints however is how much the Kenyan’s desire will be after being denied a transfer. Unless he is determined to help the squad attempt to once again reach the Europa League, the right move at this stage could be for the club to sell Victor Wanyama to the highest bidder.
