Former Arsenal youth player Benik Afobe seems certain for a return to the Premier League this summer. Sky Sports are reporting that Norwich City have sent in a bid of £10 million for the former England U-21 National Team member, however it is likely to be rejected by Wolves.

The Englishman was purchased by the West Midlands club last summer for a fee of £2 million. Prior to his arrival at Wolves, Benik Afobe had spent the previous four season’s out on loan from Arsenal.

However, it was his performance last season that proved to be a breakout one for the Englishman. Prior to his arrival at Wolves in the January transfer window, Benik Afobe scored 19 times in 30 matches for League One side MK Dons. After his arrival at Wolves, Afobe added another 13 goals in 21 matches.

Totaling both totals, Benik Afobe scored 32 times in 51 matches, easily making him one of the most skilled and productive strikers in the English Football League. It is apparent that this type of performance did not go unnoticed by club’s in the Premier League.

Having seen up close and personal what Benik Afobe is capable of last season in the English Championship, Norwich City have now targeted the player. However, the Englishman still has another three seasons remaining on his contract at Wolves, putting the club in no hurry to sell their top striker.

In need of a top striker that the club can couple with Cameron Jerome, Norwich City have made a bid of £10 million for the former Gunner. Wolves are expected to reject the bid as the club value Benik Afobe at £14 million.

With less than a week remaining until the September 1st transfer deadline, Norwich City will have to move fast in order to secure Benik Afobe’s signature. The Englishman — who has already scored three times in three matches this season — will have to reach contract terms as well as pass a medical at Carrow Road before a deal can be reached.

In light of the attempted bids from Norwich City, Wolves released a statement about not only Benik Afobe, but also about all other forwards currently in the club’s first team.

"“Neither Benik Afobe nor any of Wolves’ first-team forward players will be sold this season.”"

However, it is unlikely that this statement will deter Norwich City manager Alex Neil who is desperate to add to his attacking core this summer. Without any of the club’s five goals this season coming from the attacking players, the Canaries know they need top quality to aid their attack this season.
