West Bromwich Albion will try to go the unconventional route this summer. While most smaller clubs will always lose their star players to the bigger clubs during the winter transfer window, West Brom have rejected a bid for their star striker Saido Berahino.

The Telegraph reports that the Baggies have rejected a £22 million bid for Saido Berahino from Tottenham. The move comes three weeks into the Premier League season with Spurs forward Harry Kane having not yet found the back-of-the-net.

Tottenham have not yet won this season following an opening day loss at Manchester United. The result was followed by a collapse at home against Stoke City which saw Spurs draw after being up 2-0 through the first 75 minutes.

While the recent signing of Clinton N’Jie from Ligue 1 side Lyon gives Tottenham an additional forward to pair with Harry Kane, the side still lack depth at the position. The only other forward on the roster is for-sale 31-year old Emmanuel Adebayor.

Should the club decide to sell the Togo international, Mauricio Pochettino will be down to just two strikers. With the addition of 21-year old Saido Berahino rumored for most of the summer transfer window, Tottenham have officially sent in a bid of £22 million for the young Englishman.

Having played at every level but the senior level of England’s national team program, Saido Berahino looks to be one of the countries most promising players. With Spurs in pursuit, it is unknown how long West Brom can hold onto their star striker.

Coming up through the club’s youth system, Saido Berahino made his senior side debut back in 2010. Now the club’s best player, Saido Berahino’s future is unknown beyond the September 1st transfer deadline.

The rumor’s surrounding the player have become so intense that West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis decided to leave the Englishman out of the matchday squad against Chelsea FC. The club’s would go onto lose 3-2 at the Hawthorns after failing to find a tying goal with Chelsea down to ten men.

One thing that could upset West Brom’s chances of holding onto Saido Berahino after the Englishman handed in a transfer request on Monday. With the club unlikely to hold onto their star player, receiving the most compensation has to be Tony Pulis’ new goal.

A concern for the Baggies now has to be the lack of quality forwards still with the club. The recent signing of Salomón Rondón gives them a possible star, but who else on the club can play with him? Losing Saido Berahino could be a death sentence on West Brom’s season.
