Former Premier League player Charlie Austin has expressed his desire to return to the English top flight before the end of the summer transfer window. Playing for QPR last season, Charlie Austin scored 18 goals last season for the London based club.

His quality finishing coupled with QPR’s relegation from the Premier League have made the Englishman a prime transfer target all summer. However, even with news circling around the 26-year old daily, Charlie Austin looks no closer to a move than when the summer started.

Main club’s rumored to be interested in the English striker are Newcastle United, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur. Out of the three, you have to believe that Tottenham will be the favorite to sign Charlie Austin.

Though Spurs have just announced the signing of Clinton Njie, the club are likely still in search of another player capable of coming off the bench or working in rotation with Njie. Charlie Austin could be that player given his overall quality last season at QPR.

In Charlie Austin’s last four seasons at Burnley and QPR — three season’s in the Championship and one in the Premier League — he has scored at least 16 goals in league play. In fact, during Austin’s time with Swindon Town in League One, he never scored less than 12 goals in a single campaign.

Following QPR’s 2-2 draw against fellow English Championship side Cardiff City, Charlie Austin spoke about his desire to return to the Premier League when interviewed by Sky Sports.

"“Like I’ve said the whole way through, I’m here to play and I’ll leave that to my agent and the owners of the football club and whatever they decide will be. I’m focused on the job in hand. Every player wants to play in the Premier League and I would be lying if I said I didn’t want to be there.”"

With fellow London club West Ham involved, these negotiations could get tricky for Tottenham. Though Spurs likely have more money to spend on the player, the competition from the Hammers as well as Newcastle United could overwhelm the executives at White Hart Lane.

Queen’s Park Rangers currently value the player at around £15 million making this transfer far from cheap. While Charlie Austin’s goal scoring record is quite a good one, the Englishman has only played a single season in the Premier League. Could the 26-year old just be another one-hit wonder?

While my intuition says no, one has to wonder what might be going through the minds of Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino. With just over two weeks till the transfer deadline, will Spurs make a move for the Premier League wanting striker.
