The opening day loss to Manchester United was a blessing in disguise for Tottenham Hotspur. After all, many believed that the club’s attack needed help entering this season, a fact that was proven in the side’s 1-0 loss at Old Trafford.

Depending on Harry Kane as the club’s only potential goalscorer was something that looked good on paper given the defender’s goal scoring record last season. However, even if the young Englishman double’s his goal scoring production this season Spurs will still be in need of goals.

One possible solution to that problem could be if the club manages to sign West Bromwich Albion star Saido Berahino. The former England U-21 player scored fourteen times last season for the Baggies and according to the Independent Tottenham are confident of securing his signature.

Anticipating that their former youth player could be on his way out of the Hawthorns before the end of the summer transfer window, West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis has already signed the 22-year olds potential replacement.

Breaking a club record, West Brom announced over the Premier League’s opening weekend that the club had signed Zenit St Petersburg striker Salomon Rondon. The fee paid for the 25-year old striker was a club record £12 million.

With the new signing, it is apparent that Tony Pulis has come to terms with the impending departure of his star striker. One thing that could hamper a potential deal is the fact that Saido Berahino is a former West Brom youth player who came up through the club’s ranks.

With Harry Kane the only player currently with enough quality to lead the Tottenham Hotspur attack, Mauricio Pochettino is currently looking into adding additional attacking players. The addition of Saido Berahino will give Tottenham a player capable of playing up front and reducing the load off of Harry Kane.

West Bromwich Albion are thought to have a £20 million plus valuation of their star striker. With other cheaper options available at the attacking position, one has to question Tottenham’s willingness to pay that much for a player with only two season’s of Premier League experience.

One thing that has possibly elevated the price of Saido Berahino this summer is the high transfer fee payed all around the world. With so much money spent this summer, West Bromwich Albion will capitalize on it or retain the players services.

While it is not likely that simple of a situation, manager Tony Pulis is unlikely to sell his star striker for less than his current valuation. If Tottenham Hotspur do sign the player, it will give Spurs the attacking help it needs and for the first time give Harry Kane a quality wing man.
