Chelsea’s overall performance was not a bad one, but the loss came due to their players not taking their chances when the moments came.

They were made to start the game slow due to a blistering Arsenal side who were on the offensive from the word go. That did not allow the Blues to settle into the game but gradually they grew into the game after Arsenal took the lead.

More from The Top Flight

Chelsea found it difficult to break down a rigid Arsenal defense but whenever they did, they fluffed their lines. Hazard’s miss can be said to be the best examples of players not taking their chances when he blasted the ball over the goalpost from 5 yards.

In pre season also, we witnessed Chelsea players missing many clear cut opportunities which can be a matter of concern if the same tendency is shown in the Premier League.

In the second half of last season, Chelsea banked on a pragmatic approach where they came out with narrow one nil wins which gave them maximum points and lead them to the title. But, they could do it because the players took their chances with the utmost efficiency.

The league gets tougher and tougher each season. The Manchester clubs have reinforced their rosters and Arsenal already have got the upper hand a derby. Some stern words and a new pair of shooting boots are urgently needed at the Chelsea training camp.
