More from The Top Flight

  • While Manchester City is attempting to improve their squad this season, one player is attempting to force a move away from the Etihad Stadium. According to Forza Italian Football, Edin Dzeko has asked Manchester City to complete a possible move to Seria A club Roma as soon as possible. With limited first team minutes at Manchester City, this is not a shocking development for the Bosnian, expect a move to come sooner rather than later this summer.
  • Newcastle United appear have secured their second signing of this summer. The Daily Mail reports that Serbian Aleksandar Mitrovic will complete a £13 million move to the Magpies following the players medical at the club. His 28 goals last season show the talent and quality of the Serbian with Newcastle manager Steve McClaren likely to be hopeful of strong performances in the Premier League this season.
  • Tottenham Hotspur are on the move again. Reports claim that Spurs have entered negotiations with Atletico Madrid in a last ditch attempt to sign Spain international Mario Suarez. The midfielder is in negotiations to join Italian club Fiorentina, but that has not stopped Tottenham from making a last ditch attempt to sign their man. If Tottenham manage to pull off this move, it could put the rest the idea of “reaching a deal” before negotiations with a player are completed.
  • In an attempt to improve their already talented backline, Chelsea have been told they will need to break a British Record to do so. The Mirror reports that a £20 million bid for Everton defender John Stones was rejected by the Toffees, with Everton holding out for a British defender record of £32 million. With Manchester City also interested in the player, Chelsea will almost certainly have to reach that fee in order to secure the Englishman’s signature.
  • While Major League Soccer has been known as the “retirement” league for world greats, a former Liverpool youngster is out to change that. Multiple outlets are reporting that 21-year old American Marc Pelosi has reached an agreement to sign with Major League Soccer’s San Jose Earthquakes.
  • Once again in the news this week, Liverpool have finally triggered the release clause of Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke. Reports from all around the world state that Liverpool has bid the minimum £32.5 million for Benteke as Brendan Rodgers attempts to make the forward apart of his squad. However, though the signing is likely, Benteke will not join Liverpool on their pre-season tour with contract negotiations currently ongoing.
