Georginio Wijnaldum — Former Club: PSV — New Club: Newcastle United
Not the person you might expect when talking about the Dutch Player of the Year. However, Georginio Wijnaldum is in fact the defending Dutch Player of the Year. Teammate to Manchester United signing Memphis Depay at PSV, the Dutch international did outshine Depay last season.

The 24-year old is also the most expensive player under owner Mike Ashley, possibly showing a turn around of sorts by the club. With supporters — and myself — having accused Ashley of putting profits before the club, this transfer could signal a change of heart by the Magpies owner.
His 14 league goals show the danger that the midfielder possesses. The five year contract signed by the Dutch international also gives Newcastle a top player to depend on in the midfield. Arguably the best Dutch footballer last year, this capture represents a sort of coup for Newcastle United.
If new Magpies manager Steve McClaren can replicate this signing on a usual basis, Newcastle should soon find themselves far away from the relegation battle and may even find themselves battling for European qualification.
