Update: Kondogbia Has Signed for Inter Milan

The North London Derby is one of the biggest derby’s in all of the world. However, the derby is now set to take place off the pitch as Arsenal FC and Tottenham Hotspur are set to battle for AS Monaco’s young star Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Kondogbia — who has played for the Ligue 1 side AS Monaco since 2013 — is looking likely to be making a move towards North London. Whether that move involves White or Red clothing is not yet known as the intensity between the two parties heats up.

With an asking price of £25 million, the holding midfielder is will cost a pretty penny. At the same price as Tottenham and Arsenal target Morgan Schneiderlin, Kondogbia’s future must be bright for either side to show interest in the unknown player.

Though he featured in 49 matches over the last two years at AS Monaco, the 22-year old is a mostly unknown player. Not showing up on many people’s radars until the links with Arsenal and Tottenham appeared, Kondogbia is a likely risk for both sides.

However, it is unlikely that the young Frenchman will feature much in his first season at either club. Both clubs are currently stacked at the midfield position. If anything, Kondogbia’s only appearances will likely come in cup matches and continental competition.

With the European Championships next summer in France, Kondogbia’s chances of making the French roster will dissapear if he takes a role as a bench player at either of the North London clubs. The only chance he has of making the French National Team roster next summer is to remain at Monaco.

Should Geoffrey Kondogbia consider a move to either of the clubs, Tottenham will likely face an uphill battle to defeat their derby rivals. Like AS Monaco, the Gunners will be playing in the Champions League next season, something that Tottenham cannot offer.

The only advantage that Tottenham has over Arsenal is the amount of depth in their midfield. While both sides have depth in their midfield, Spurs offers quicker route to playing consistently in the first team. Losing star players over the years creates a constant rotation of players, giving Kondogbia a quicker chance that he would get at Arsenal FC.

Should Geoffrey Kondogbia decide to make a move to North London this summer, his potential position with next summer’s French squad will likely disappear. It could also be a couple years before a move like this will pay off for the 22-year old.

However, making the move now gives Geoffrey Kondogbia the opportunity to prove his worth in the Premier League. Should he take full advantage of this opportunity, not only will Kondogbia become a household name, but he will solidify his position within the French National Team for a very long time.
