The last big derby day of the season comes on March 19th. Both the Manchester Derby and Tyne-Wear Derby take place on this day as the final rivalry matches of the season take place on this day. Also of note will be Liverpool heading south to St. Mary’s Stadium to take on Southampton.

More from The Top Flight

While almost two months remain in the season from this point forward, these matches are for the supporters more than anything. However, both matches have the potential to affect the Premier League for many years to come based on their outcomes.

Manchester City hosting rivals Manchester United could be a match between two title hopefuls. While the Premier League title cannot be won by this day, it can sure be lost during this rivalry. Heading to Etihad Stadium, the Red Devils will likely need a win to have any hope of competing for the title this season.

At the other end of the spectrum, is the Tyne-Wear Derby. While it was once one of the most respected matches in all of English football, the match has turned into two relegation threatened clubs fighting for survival over the last few seasons.

Unless things change this season for both Sunderland and Newcastle, this rivalry match will once again be two clubs fighting for their Premier League survival. However, while the meaning of the rivalry has diminished, supporters of either club still see the rivalry as good as ever. Sending their biggest rival down a league is the best thing for either club to do.
