After last seasons tumultuous campaign, Everton FC are in dire need of a bounce back season. In Roberto Martinez’s second year at Goodison Park, Everton fell from grace. In his inaugural season at Everton, Martinez led the Blues to a fifth place finish and Europa League qualification.

However, the side failed to live up to expectations last season and struggled to a eleventh placed finish last season. The side spent much of the season below tenth in the table, and for a time was seen as a possible relegation threat.

A negative two goal differential last season could have been much worse. Needing to improve on every end of the pitch this season, Everton has already targeted one player that could be a difference maker for them next season.

Blackburn’s Jordan Rhodes has long been one the English Championship’s best forwards. His three seasons spent at League One resulted in 71 goals from the now Scotland national team member.

Transferring to Blackburn in 2012, Rhodes growth and developing form has yet to find its stopping point. Scoring 74 goals over the last three seasons, it is now time for the Scott to make the jump to the Premier League.

The 25-year old is currently wanted by at least five English clubs and Blackburn is looking to take advantage. A bid of at least £12 million will be required to pry the talented striker from Blackburn’s grasps. While Everton FC, Swansea City and Crystal Palace are all targeting the player, a Championship side appears to be their chief opposition.

  • Though Everton can provide the safety of being a mid-to-upper table Premier League club, it is highly unlikely that Jordan Rhodes will be promised a starting role right off the bat. A side that can promise first team action is Middlesbrough.

The runner-ups in the play-off final to Norwich City, Middlesbrough are looking to improve once again in hope of mounting a challenge for promotion this season. Defeating Middlesbrough in the bidding process will be key towards Everton’s signing efforts.

If Everton FC does manage to sign Jordan Rhodes, expect the Scottish international to be slowly acclimated into the team. The forward will have to earn his role within the squad, making this his toughest ever task.

However, once Rhodes does make his presence known within the side, it will be all up hill from there. Jordan Rhodes has the ability and potential to lead almost any Premier League side in the attack. He is a born goal scorer. Once he gets his feet wet, Rhodes will become one the Premier League’s most dangerous goal scorers.
