One of the newest kids to the Women’s World Cup, the nation only made their debut at the 2003 World Cup. Missing out on the 2007 tournament in China, France returned last time out in Germany.
It turns out, the 2011 tournament was a breakout performance for the French. The squad finished second in their group before advancing into the Semi-Finals. Losing to the United States, France would end up losing to Sweden in the third place match.
The damage was done though. Damage to the rest of the World!
Coming into the 2015 World Cup, France are now ranked third in the world and have a realistic chance at winning this World Cup. Signature wins against the United States last year show their strength. Anything less than another Semi-Final appearance will be a failure for one of Europe’s best teams.
