Southampton FC: Morgan Schneiderlin Will only Leave for Champions League Football
Even after suffering a defeat in the final match of the season against Manchester City, Southampton FC have achieved their best Premier League result — best top division finish came in 1983-1984 — in the club’s history.

Scoring the most points for the club during a Premier League season, this side has been, arguably, the best Southampton side in the club’s long history. One can only wonder how much better things may have gone should former stars Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert not depart last summer.
Lacking a scoring punch for most of the season, Southampton FC overcame their deficiency with a stellar defense. Led by Captain Jose Fonte, the back four may have been one of the best in all of European soccer.
However, while the back four may recieve much of the credit, star midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin was also a major factor in both the defensive brilliance and offensive output.
While club director Les Reed has stated his intent to keep most of the club’s talent this summer, the Saints may have to face the reality that Morgan Schneiderlin is destined for bigger things than the Europa League.
In recent weeks, Tottenham has been the club heavily linked with the French international. With former Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino in charge at White Hart Lane, the Spurs were made the favorite for the Saints star.
It is now obvious that a move to that North London side is off the table. Morgan Schneiderlin has now stated that he will only leave Southampton FC for a chance at playing in the Champions League.
"“The Champions League is my goal and if I leave Southampton it will be for a club in the Champions League.I have to give myself every chance of playing in the European Championships next year.”"
With the Champions League being the French international’s career goal, St. Mary’s could see an uptick in European based calls in the next few weeks. However, the midfielder is expected to remain in the Premier League.

A report from the Express states that some of England’s biggest clubs could join the chase for Schneiderlin. Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal are all clubs expected to challenge for the 25-year old’s signature.
Leaving Southampton would be huge for not only the Saints but Schneiderlin as well. While Southampton would lose their best player, the money received would be enough to add to multiple areas of the squad.
Improvement is always needed in this game. Southampton must improve to challenge for the Champions League. For Schneiderlin, the move would make the French star push to play week in and week out. No longer being the best could affect him, but also help him improve his game.
No matter what Morgan Schneiderlin decides to do, it will have an affect on both himself and Southampton FC.
