Paul Scholes believes Manchester United aren’t ready for the Premier League title

During the playing career of Paul Scholes, he managed to make over 450 appearances for Manchester United and lifted the Premier League title on eleven occasions. It’s safe to assume that Scholes knows a thing or two about what it takes to compete in the top tier English League.

It’s been over two years since Paul Scholes announced his retirement from playing professional competitive football but the Englishman still remains up to date with everything in the world. He has become one of the go too men when it comes to everything that is going around not only in the Premier League but in the sport as well.

Even though he is out of the playing grounds, Scholes continues watching games and after seeing how his former club Manchester United have performed this season he believes that they still do not have what it takes to reclaim the Premier League title. Even with all the money that the Glazer family have spent, it wont be enough according to Paul Scholes.

Former player at Manchester United, Scholes expressed his point of view concerning which teams are going to be the favorites on winning the league in the next season.

"“We know Chelsea will buy two or three players and you have to say they have been a long way ahead this year.“Arsenal look good apart from Monday night (they lost to Swansea) and if they buy a couple I don’t think they will be far away. You have to say City will spend a lot of money as well so there’s a lot of catching up to be done.”– Paul ScholesSource: mirror"

In the previous summer transfer window Manchester United spent over €140 million as the Premier League giants signed Radamel Falcao, Angel Di Maria, Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo. Some of these signings helped the team in pushing into the top five of the Premier League while others haven’t been very helpful at all.

A few weeks ago it was revealed that Louis van Gaal will have a transfer budget of around €150 million so that the Dutch coach can reinforce his team even further and make a genuine charge for the Premier League title next season.

However, Paul Scholes believes that it wont be enough as Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City will as well be pushing hard in the approaching summer transfer window.

Another reason of why Paul Scholes believes that Manchester United still aren’t ready to claim the Premier League title is due to not being able to cope with the departures of Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic.

In order to fill in the absence of those defenders who left Old Trafford, Louis van Gaal has tried to establish Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling as the new main defensive figures of the squad but they have struggled with injuries and haven’t truly been able to perform at the level that the previous defenders consistently played at.
