With the unexpected news this morning that Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp would be leaving the club at the end of the season, rumors have already began as to the next destination for one of the world’s best managers.

Klopp was appointed manager at Dortmund in May of 2008. Leading the club to back-to-back Bundesliga titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12, Klopp has been one of the most talked about managers in recent memory.

Since his second title at Dortmund in 2012, Klopp has been linked with no less than a dozen of the world’s top jobs. With current Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini expected to be sacked should the club’s top four spot become in jeopardy.

Speaking to the media about the decision to leave Dortmund, Klopp spoke of the reason for his decision to leave his longtime club.

"“I have said that when I have the feeling that I am no longer the right coach for this extraordinary club, then I would say that. I have realized that in the past few weeks and days that I was not sure that I am no longer the right person, but I could also not answer the question with ‘Yes’.”"

Klopp also told the media that he plans to continue managing next season should he find a job.

"“I have not planned a sabbatical, but I also have no contact to other clubs. No tactics involved. I am not tired.”"

With Klopp’s availability this summer, many of the world’s top clubs may be in for a managerial change. Prior to the appointment of Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, Klopp was rumored to be the favorite for the job.

Since the announcement of that Klopp would depart Dortmund at the end of the current campaign, the odds of him being appointed Manchester City manager next season have been significantly cut.

Starting the day at 16/1, Klopp now sits as the betting favorite at 10/11 odds. Overtaking some of the world’s most respected managers Rafa Benitez and Carlo Ancelotti, Klopp appears set to become the next man in line at the Etihad.

His departure from Borussia Dortmund will only add on the agony of the club. The side has struggled this season, currently sitting tenth in the Bundesliga. The club was seen as a relegation contender early in the season, but has since improved.

The club is expected to lose longtime defender and German international Mats Hummels this summer. Should Klopp be appointed at a new club during the summer, it is expected that he will have the inside track for one of the world’s top defenders.

Respected as one of the world’s best managers, Klopp’s next move could be one for the ages. Should he replicate his results that he achieved at Dortmund, any club that signs him will be in position to win a league and possibly Champions League title.
