The Brazilian has been on the club’s radar for quite some time, and he confirmed that the teams were in talks during the January window.
Costa also expressed his desire to make the switch, labeling it “a dream move,” and pleading with Shaktar to let him go if the Blues made an offer, but Chelsea opted to go for Juan Cuadrado instead.
It has now surfaced that Chelsea and Shaktar have made an agreement in principle, which will see the 24-year-old move to London at the end of the season for a fee of £18 million.
"“The Brazilian midfielder has agreed in principle to sign for the Premier League leaders at the end of the season in an £18million deal.Chelsea will monitor the 24-year-old’s fitness between now and the end of the season before landing him from Shakhtar Donetsk.Costa has previously suffered knee problems but is confident of proving his fitness before sealing his dream move to Stamford Bridge.”Source: Bleacher ReportThe player is keen to join former teammate, and good friend, Willian at Stamford Bridge, and seems to hold Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho in very high regard.“I’d be really interested in moving to Chelsea — not only because of everything Willian tells me about the club, but because I think that I’d be able to achieve everything I want having someone like Jose Mourinho by my side.”“Since I left Brazil, I have worked with a marvellous coach and got an idea of how much influence such a good professional can have in your football. Now I think it’s time to try a new philosophy and I’m sure that Mourinho’s is the best around. He’s always fighting for trophies.”-Douglas CostaSource: ESPNFCAnother Costa could certainly make a huge splash at Chelsea. Diego Costa, another Brazilian, made light work of his first season in the Premier League, having raced to the top of the scoring charts with 18 goals in 22 appearances for the Blues. This Costa has put on quite the show in Ukraine with his pace and skill on the ball. He isn’t much of a goal scorer, but he could surely unlock a defense or get in behind to create chances. The only problem would be his place in the team, it would take a lot to displace any one of Chelsea’s starters, and being a right winger means that he will need to show that he is better than Willian — something Cuadrado has failed to do so far.More from The Top FlightBarcelona identify Newcastle star as Robert Lewandowski replacementArsenal injury news: Mikel Arteta confirms “rapid” attacker suffered injury“600 days” Fans make SHOCK Chelsea revelation – They really are poorArsenal transfer news: Mikel Arteta rivals Manchester United for wonderkidManchester United: Erik ten Hag pinpoints 4 players amid Brighton lossMohamed Salah is having the time of his life over at Fiorentina, and his performances may cause the Blues to rethink a permanent transfer.
