The club announced on their website, the end to their star forward’s campaign.

"“Andy Carroll will have surgery on his injured knee on Tuesday following assessment by a specialist on Friday afternoon. The recovery phase is expected to keep Carroll out for the remainder of the 2014/15 season.”"

It is now known that Carroll suffered medial ligament damage during the match at St. Mary’s. Manager Sam Allardyce originally revealed that Carroll could miss up to six weeks with a knee problem.

"“It is likely to be a few weeks, the medial ligament on the side of his knee has a tear in it.”"

However, it now appears the injury is worse than originally thought. With the club missing their top forward and biggest aerial threat, the Hammers will need to find a way to compensate for Carroll’s loss.

Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho could be seen as suitable alternatives to lead the West Ham attack, but no player on the current roster poses such a huge threat.

Thanks to his height and overall ability up front, the Englishman opened up play for others in the attack. His presence on set pieces were crucial to West Ham’s form this season. Creating eleven chances to go with his five goals, the striker played a big role in the Hammers’ performance this season.

With West Ham currently sitting eighth in the table, the side will make an attempt to finish the season top half in the Premier League. Earlier this season, West Ham were looking for Champions League qualification, but fell out due to a poor run of form.

With upcoming matches at Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City as well as playing host to Chelsea, West Ham will need to find a solution to replacing Andy Carroll very quickly.

Losing their star forward will also affect the side’s FA Cup chances as well. Playing away at West Brom this weekend, they will be looking to advance.

With Swansea City, Newcastle and Stoke City all sitting within range of West Ham in the standings, a poor run of form now could cost the Hammers a top half finish.

Big Sam’s men have proven their resilience before and they will need to again. Missing Andy Carroll could prove costly for the side in their search for a respectable position at the end of the campaign.

The main thing for Andy Carroll will be the recovery process. West Ham will be in the Premier League next season and need a healthy Andy Carroll to lead the attack. Something the side will dearly miss for the rest of the season.
