Chelsea FC Finally Tie Eden Hazard Down To New Deal

After much deliberation, Chelsea FC midfielder Eden Hazard has finally signed a contract extension with the club.

The Belgian — who wears the number 10 jersey — penned a new five-and-a-half-year deal, committing his future to the Blues.

"“I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea,’ Hazard said. ‘Since I came here in 2012 I have always felt good and the club has been very supportive to me”“The manager has helped me improve a lot, the fans have been fantastic and I have an amazing understanding with my team-mates.”“I always try to give pleasure to the supporters with my style of play and it is nice to know they appreciate my work.”“I hope we can repay that support by winning lots of trophies, beginning with the Capital One Cup at Wembley, and after that, we can push hard towards the end of the season.”-Eden HazardSource: Chelseafc.com"

Chelsea supporters have breathed a collective sigh of relief, many were probably beginning to doubt.

Before Christmas, reports suggested that Hazard would sign a new £200,000 per week contract, but it became a long drawn out affair, causing fans a fair bit of worry.

Only recently, club boss Jose Mourinho jokingly claimed that he was the reason for the hold up, due to the fact that none of his pens were worthy of such an occasion.

"“I am buying a nice pen, I need a bit of time to go to Sloane Street and buy a proper pen. I just need time to buy the pen and after that I think there is not a long time to go!”-Jose Mourinho"

Well, it seems like all it took was a visit to Sloane Street. The games were probably coming too quickly for the manager; but with a week’s rest before they face PSG in the Champions League, he finally found the time to purchase the right pen for the job.

"“I am very happy that Eden has signed a new contract. It shows he believes in the club’s coaching staff and players to help him become the best player in the world.”“He is already a top player and his evolution has been fantastic. He is still very young and he can become the best.”-Jose Mourinho"

Chelsea are having a superb season out on the pitch, but they are also in great business form. After buying Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas, Loic Remy and Filipe Luis — as well as bringing back a club legend in Didier Drogba — last summer, the Blues also brought Juan Cuadrado in this month.

With the signing of Hazard to a new contract, they have secured their most prized possession — at least for the foreseeable future.

More from The Top Flight

Since joining in 2012, Hazard has made 147 appearances for Chelsea, during which he recorded a tally of 43 goals. He is the most exciting player at the club, his electric pace and flashy dribbling skills have made him virtually unplayable.

The midfielder was voted Chelsea Player of The Year by the club’s supporters last season. He finished as their top scorer, bagging 17 goals in all competitions.

Hazard has had a massive impact so far this campaign. He has helped the Blues secure a place in the finals of the Capital One Cup, also playing a pivotal role in their push for the Premier League Title.

Eden Hazard is on course for greatness; for now, he’s taking taking the Blues with him.
