Sitting seventh in the table, Liverpool are three points behind fourth placed Arsenal. Fifth place Manchester United currently sit two point up on Liverpool but have a single match in hand on Liverpool.
Having not lost a match since their 3-0 defeat to Manchester United in December, Liverpool have every chance in the world to fight their way back into the Premier League’s top four.
Following the sides 0-0 draw at Everton, defender Martin Skrtel stated the players belief in finishing this season in the top four.
"“We are just going from game to game, and try to get as many points as we can. We believe we can get top four now and I hope we can do it.”"
However, has Liverpool left it too late? With thirteen matches yet to be played, Liverpool will have to overcome at least a three point gap to Arsenal and possibly more should Manchester United win their match against Burnley.
With away matches at Southampton, Arsenal and Chelsea still awaiting the club, it will be a hard fought task for Liverpool to get back into the top four. It will be even harder for the side to remain in Champions League qualification should they eventually make it there.
With the club remaining in competition for the FA Cup and Europa League, the added matches could serve as more of a burden than a blessing. The more matches the club plays, the higher the risk for fatigue and injury.

Also standing in Liverpool’s way will be matches at Anfield against Manchester City and Manchester United. Playing all the clubs currently ahead in the standings will give Liverpool a great opportunity to gain ground on their opposition.
At the same time, a loss in these matches would almost certainly drop the side from Champions League contention. These matches will not only determine Liverpool’s future, but also the future of manager Brendan Rodgers.
Should Liverpool fail qualify for the Champions League, it can be asked how long Rodger’s will remain with the club? He has talked about being offered a new contract, but nothing has been made official.
Should Liverpool miss the top four this season, Rodgers would be placed under a vast amount of pressure to perform next season. Should Liverpool’s early season struggles continue into next season, it could signal the end of Brendan Rodgers tenure with Liverpool.
In the end, it will be up the players. If Liverpool can continue to perform at its current levels, there is no reason why the Reds will not finish top four. However, if Liverpool begins to suffer a loss of form, we could see Liverpool FC miss out on Champions League soccer next season.
