Chelsea FC forward Diego Costa has made quite the splash in the Premier League this season. The striker took his goal tally to 17, with a brace against Swansea in his 19th league appearance on Saturday.

“Of course it is nice to be the top scorer but when I came here my aim was to win the league.”

Costa now leads all scorers, and he is the favorite to win the golden boot, but in a chat with the Chelsea FC official Website (prior to Saturday’s game), he stated that he is more focused on winning matches than he is on his personal achievements.

The forward scored just 17 minutes into his Chelsea debut, and has never looked back. Such a moment would surely build confidence and inspire one to go on scoring, would things have been very different if that first goal against Burnley didn’t exist? Probably not.

"“As a striker, obviously you live and get judged by the goals you score. It is good to get off the mark straight away but more than that it is about the team performance and the hard work.”“The first goal could have been scored in the second or the third game, or I could have scored in the first and gone through a dry period with no goals, but what is important is the dedication and the hard work and the belief that we can always do better.”“If my first goal didn’t come in the first few games I would have still been confident. That is because the team we have is such a great one and the ability of the players that play in midfield and feed the striker is very high, so I always knew goals would come. It is just about hard work and togetherness.”– Diego Costa"

While he enjoys being the top scorer so far this season, he stressed on his desire to win the League title with his new club.

"“Of course it is nice to be the top scorer but when I came here my aim was to win the league. The most important thing is the club going well, like we did in the other leagues I played in, and it would be nice at the end of the season to see the team doing well as well as the individual.”– Diego Costa"

More from The Top Flight

Whether or not Chelsea wins the league this season, is very dependent on the Brazilian. They lost out to Manchester City last season due to their inability to break teams down, and that was because they did not have a force up front.

Most of the load will be on his shoulders as the season wears on, but it doesn’t seem like he will even feel it, especially if he keeps on like this.

The Blues have another tough run of games ahead, with an FA Cup tie vs Bradford Sandwiched between two legs of the Capital One Cup semi-finals against Liverpool. They will then play host to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

These four matches all take place in the span of just 11 days; Costa and his team can edge closer to silverware if they get positive results from all these games, but things could take another wicked twist if they fall victim to fatigue again.
