Chelsea FC: Loic Remy Should Seriously Get More Playing Time
By Lou Flavius
Chelsea FC forward Loic Remy should be applauded for his patience and positive attitude this season. If anyone is more deserving of more minutes, it’s him.

Remy — who joined the Blues from QPR at the beginning of the season — has been used sparingly by Manager Jose Mourinho, but he is as efficient as it gets. After spending over 30 million pounds on Star striker Diego Costa, no one expected Remy to be Chelsea’s first choice, but having to play second fiddle to Didier Drogba has been a bit disconcerting.
Not that Drogba doesn’t deserve his minutes — he has done exceptionally well in his role this season, scoring six goals so far — but Remy could have probably forced different scorelines had he been given more chances. He has after all, made the most of his chances however few minutes he plays, scoring four goals in nine appearances, which is pretty decent.

“Every time the manager wants to use me I give my best and try to help the team as much as possible.”
The Frenchman started Chelsea’s FA cup tie vs Watford on Sunday, and it wasn’t surprising to see him get on the score-sheet. Costa had a shot blocked (handled) in the box, but Remy was in the right position to blast home the rebound and give the Blues a 2-0 cushion, after Willian had opened the scoring 12 minutes earlier.
Remy has been quite patient in his role as back up striker, but he also seems eager to get more time out on the pitch.
"“We have to be ready every time we get an opportunity to play. We have to show the manager he can count on us.”“If I score goals it means I’m ready but obviously there are 11 players on the pitch. We can’t play more than that!”“Every time the manager wants to use me I give my best and try to help the team as much as possible.”– Loic RemySource: The Daily Star"
Remy also highlighted the importance of the 3-0 win over Watford, the squad needed a confidence boost after the demoralizing 5-3 defeat to Tottenham, and a win at home did them no harm. The striker also believes that the Blues are in a good position in all of their four competitions, and stated that they want to win on all fronts this season.
"“For us I hope it’s behind us now with the last two league games. The players are still happy. Against Watford we deserved the win and we showed we can react.”“We’re still top of the league, we’ve qualified for the next round in the FA Cup so there is no reason to be negative.”“We are a strong squad, a lot can happen during the season but we are just focused on winning games.”“It’s going to be hard but we want to win every competition, that’s why the mentality and quality of the squad can make the difference.”– Loic RemySource: The Daily Star"
Remy has seemingly maintained a positive mindset so far, but he is certainly deserving of more playing time. He gives the team something different with his pace and ability to play out wide. With Chelsea’s weakest spot probably being out on the right wing, he could probably be used there more often.
There is still a lot of football left to play this season and Remy will probably get a lot more chances, but if the second half of the Blues’ campaign is anything like the first (when it comes to rotation), the Frenchman may not be so calm at the end — especially if Chelsea lose out to Manchester City in the title race.
