Another transfer deadline day has been and gone, and it was as spectacular and busy as usual. Here I am going to round-up the biggest deals of the day and give my rating on them. But, we want to know what you think the best deal was, on both the deadline day and the whole window.

1. RADAMEL FALCAO: MONACO > MAN UTD – LOAN

This was arguable the biggest shock of the transfer window. After Falcao tweeted “Dream come true #HalaMadrid” on Saturday, it was naturally assumed that he would be heading to the capital of Spain. However, we all awoke yesterday morning with the news that the Columbian star was in talks with Manchester United over a loan deal.

It then took all of yesterday to confirm the capture, and in fact he was only officially unveiled as a player 01:30am this morning. A long wait for United fans should be worth it though as he brings a wealth of experience and talent to a largely youthful Manchester side. With a better minute per goals rate than both Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, he will be looking to start ahead of the two other strikers with immediate effect.

2. DANNY WELBECK: MAN UTD > ARSENAL – £16M

Danny Welbeck was told a week ago that he wasn’t needed and could leave with immediate effect. The rumour mill then started to turn and teams such as Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Sunderland were churned out. He eventually ended up signing with Arsenal despite their manager Arsene Wenger being in Italy to referee a charity match.

Nevertheless, he joins Arsenal after training at their Colney training ground with the England squad. The North London team were looking for replacements as their main striker Olivier Giroud is now out with injury until January. Welbeck will be able to take his place in the first team and his style of running onto through balls should suit The Gunners down to a tee.

3. HATEM BEN ARFA: NEWCASTLE UTD > HULL – LOAN

Hatem Ben Arfa’s exile at Newcastle United finally came to an end late last night as he signed for Hull City on loan for the rest of the season. He will now be hoping that his time in the reserves is over and that he can jump into Hull’s first team squad to help them cope with the demands of playing European football in between a tough Premier League campaign.

Forgetting that I think he should have stayed in Newcastle, and should have been reinstated into the first team, I hope that this move will be good for him. After a spending a season with Hull, he should be able to come back to Newcastle and the Toon fans can marvel at his magic once again.

4. TOM CLEVERLEY: MAN UTD > ASTON VILLA – LOAN

This move was on and off and back on again several times over the course of the day. The deal looked set for completion but with an £8m fee to make the switch permanent. However, midway through the day, Leicester City became interested in the player as they looked to take both Tom Cleverley and Lawrence to The King Power Stadium. They managed the latter for an undisclosed fee, but Cleverley chose Villa over Leicester.

Cleverley hasn’t shown his best at Manchester United despite several opportunities to do so in the starting eleven. He will be hoping that a loan move to Villa will be the kickstart this his career needs. Some good performances and a couple of goals will bring him back into the spotlight for both a starting place in the United team and to be included in the England set-up.
