Premier League weekend previeew
By Tom Vinall
Gamweek nine of the 24/25 Premier League season is already upon us. Let’s see how the weekend shapes up.
Premier League weekend previeew
We start where we left off – with Nottingham Forest in action, as they make the short trip to play Leicester City, and former manager Steve Cooper. Both teams are in fairly good shape all things considered, with Forest in eight place and Leicester having won their last two games, as they remain the only promoted side to pick up a win. They are also the only team other than Manchester City to have scored in every game.
Onto Saturday, where there will be no early kick off – so straight to the 3pm’s. Aston Villa host Bournemouth, fresh from securing their third Champions League win in as many games. The visitors will be looking to build on their impressive win over Arsenal last time out.
Brentford host Ipswich Town, as the visitors continue to look for that illusive first victory since promotion. Yoanne Wissa made his return off the bench against Manchester United, and could be in line to bolster Thomas Frank’s starting XI here.
Brighton and Hove Albion host Wolves, as they look for a third win in a row. Wolves meanwhile are looking for their first win whatsoever. That said, Gary O’Neil’s side did show a lot of promise in their cruel late defeat against Manchester City last time out.
Speaking of Manchester City, they host Southampton. You could not get a worse fixture when looking for your first win of a season. Phil Foden scored his second goal of the season in the Champions League during the week, and will be hoping to score his first Premier League goal of the campaign here.
In the teatime game, Everton host Fulham, as former manager Marco Silva returns to Goodison Park. The Toffees have won two and taken seven points from their last three games, as they start to gradually improve after a slow start. Raul Jimenez is playing his best ever football post head injury, and will fancy his chances at scoring again here.
On Sunday there are four games, with three at 2pm. The TV slot is the showdown between Chelsea and Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge. Newcastle have only scored eight Premier League goals all season – Chelsea scored six against Wolves.
West Ham United host Manchester United, with the visitors having played in Turkey on Thursday night, as they drew 1-1 against Fenerbahce. Mohammed Kudus is suspended after his red card against Spurs, in a big blow for the hosts.
Crystal Palace host Tottenham Hotspur in the final other 3pm game. After an incredible end to last season, Palace have started this season with five defeats and three draws. Spurs also played in the Europa League on Thursday, but at home, and with a London away game here – so a lot less traveling than United have.
Finally, Arsenal host Liverpool in the 4:30 slot. Mikel Arteta will be without William Saliba and Martin Odegaard, with Bukayo Saka likely missing too. Arne Slot has made a fantastic start to life at Liverpool, even if it has been in a more cautious manner, as they look to make it twelve wins from his first thirteen games.
