On Thursday night, into the early hours of Friday morning BST, there were a number of Premier League players in action for South American sides in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying. Let's take a look at how things went.

Premier League international watch: South America round up

Luis Diaz started for Colombia, who were on the wrong end of a shock result as they lost in 90 minutes for the first time since February 2022, after being condemned to a 1-0 defeat by Bolivia. Jefferson Lerma came on in the second half.

Moises Caicedo and Pervis Estupinan started for Ecuador in their 0-0 draw at home to Paraguay, whilst Kendry Paez, who will join Chelsea next summer, played the first half. Miguel Almiron and Julio Enciso started for Paraguay meanwhile.

Enzo Fernandez started for Argentina as they drew 1-1 away to Venezuela in absolutely awful playing conditions. Emi Martinez of Aston Villa and Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur were suspended for this one. Alexis Mac Allister of Liverpool was only a substitute after being an injury doubt for the game all week.

Ederson, Gabriel, Lucas Paqueta, Andre, and Savio all started for Brazil away to Chile in their qualifier. Savio assisted Igor Jesus' equaliser for Brazil, who would go onto win 2-1 in what already felt like a must win game for The Selecao. Bruno Guimaraes replaced Andre and assisted Luiz Henrique's winner. Gabriel Martinelli came on minutes before the late winner.

As it stands, Argentina lead the way with 19 points from nine games. Luis Diaz' Colombia are in second with 16 points from nine games. Ederson, Gabriel, Paqueta, Andre, Savio, Bruno Guimaraes and Martinelli's Brazil are up to fourth with 13 points from nine games. Caicedo and Estupinan's Ecuador are fifth with 12 points from nine games, though they have a three point deduction.

Enciso and Almiron's Paraguay have ten points from their nine games, as they sit one place below the play-off spot, which is currently occupied by Venezuela.
