Newcastle United strike late twice to secure win
By Tom Vinall
On Sunday afternoon, Newcastle United pulled two rabbits out of the hat to complete a turnaround victory against Wolves at Molineux.
Gary O'Neil opted for a line up of; Johnstone; Semedo, Mosquera, Dawson, Ait Nouri; Andre, Gomes; Lemina, Bellegarde; Cunha; Larsen.
Eddie Howe went with; Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall; Longstaff, Guimares, Joelinton; Murphy, Isak, Gordon.
Wolves started the game well, and took the lead after 36 minutes. Larsen made a run down the right side, before putting in a low cross, that was expertly dummied by Gomes and went through to Lemina who couldn't miss and tapped home from close range in a great team goal.
Big win for Newcastle United away at Wolves on Sunday
The home side was generally seeing the game out well, but 15 minutes from time, a speculative effort from Schar on his return from suspension, was ricocheted into the back of the net and Newcastle were level. Just five minutes later, substitute Harvey Barnes cut inside, jinxed past Wolves substitute Matt Doherty and curled the ball into the far corner. A goal that we have seen him score over the years for Leicester City and in his time, when fit, at St James' Park.
This win continues Newcastle's excellent start to the season, as the Magpies move to third in the league, with ten points from their first four games. With one game a week, Sandro Tonali back from suspension, and hopefully a lot fewer injuries, this season promises to be an exciting one for Eddie Howe's side.
As for the Wolves, it is now just one point from their opening four games, as they struggle to shake off the hangover from the end of last season. Taking the back end of 23/24 into account, Gary O'Neil's side have now won just one of their previous 13 games in the Premier League.
Wolves face Brighton and Hove Albion in midweek Carabao Cup action on Wednesday night, whilst Newcastle's next game is away to Fulham in the league on Saturday.
