Cole Palmer makes history in Chelsea win against Brighton

Enzo Maresca went with a line up of; Robert Sanchez; Malo Gusto, Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, Marc Cucurella; Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez; Madueke, Palmer, Sancho; Jackson.

Fabian Hurzeler, meanwhilem opted for; Bart Verbruggen, Ferdi Kadioglu, Adam Webster, Lewis Dunk, Pervis Estupinan; Carlos Baleba, Mats Wieffer, Jack Hinshelwood; Georginio Rutter, Danny Welbeck, Karou Mitoma.

The visitors took an early lead, after a mix up at the back involving Robert Sanchez leaving Rutter to head home his first goal for Brighton. Fourteen mintues later, and Cole Palmer had equalised with a goal from just inside the box. Seven minutes later, Palmer and Chelsea had two, as he made it 10/10 perfect penalties for the Blues.

Just three minutes later, it was three for Chelsea, and three for Palmer, as he scored a direct free-kick from around 30 yards out, with a sublime strike. However, just another three minutes after that, Carlos Baleba got one back for the visitors with a right footed strike from inside the box.

Seven minutes after that, and incredibly, Chelsea and Palmer himself both had four goals, as he slotted home a left-footed shot inside the near post, having been teed up by Jadon Sancho. Palmer became the first player in Premier League history to score four goals in the first half.

The sides went into the break with Chelsea 4-2 up, and remarkably, that was how it finished. It was not for the want of trying though, with Jackson missing a shot with an essentially unguarded goal having been fed by Palmer. The 22-year old phenom also missed a presentable chance himself, which would have equaled the Premier League record of five goals in a single game. Nevertheless, Chelsea continued their positive start to the season., and condemned Brighton to their first defeat of the Hurzeler era.

This result puts Chelsea in fourth place with 13 points from six games, and Brighton and Hove Albion in eighth place, with nine points from six games.
